Trees Trees Trees!

So we've gone a little tree crazy this year. It started with 75 trees we bought from the county. 50 pines, 25 maples. Those were only about 1-2 feet each, so not too bad to plant. Then we were told about a nursery in Monticello (Dan & Jerry's) that were selling "storm damaged" trees for $5 and $10. Basically they have a few broken branches or something - so they can't sell them for full price. So off I went and got 12 fruit trees - 6 apple, 3 plum, 2 pear and 1 cherry. These were big trees (6-8 feet tall) - most with fruit already starting on them. We already have 5 apples trees, so now we have 11!

My friend Candy called yesterday while she was at Dan & Jerry's and tells me what they have now (they've been getting new shipment of discount trees now and then) and she tells me they have 4 weeping willow trees for $10. I've always wanted Willow trees! So I had her buy them for me and have them hold them. So we picked up those today and they're big! One has to be at least 10 feet tall. Now we just have to find the right spot for them.

I'm still learning how to care for all these trees. As you'll see in some of the pictures, something is eating the leaves. I did spray the trees with fruit tree spray, but mainly sprayed the fruit itself.

I told Barry to slap me if I wanted more trees. Luckily he didn't take me up on that today. :) Can't beat a 10 foot weeping willow for $10!!!

Hmmm . . . now that I know about all that fruit, I may have to dress in black this fall and sneak some one night . . . ha ha. But seriously, I'm actually thinking, "why didn't I know about that sale sooner"! It's bad enough I keep adding vegetables to my garden almost every week! Will it never end ?! :-)

I have the fruit, you have the veggies! (And if you did want some fruit trees, they could still possbily have some! They had a ton of apple trees).
